About this event

The application site is currently occupied by two office buildings dating back to the 1960’s, and lies within the town centre, opposite East Putney Underground Station. Our vision for the regeneration of this site focuses on high quality design and the delivery of a mix of residential and commercial uses to bring new vibrancy and diversity to the town centre.

As part of the planning process, we have consulted a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, businesses, elected representatives and local interest groups from the surrounding area.  We have considered the responses from the groups consulted, provided appropriate feedback on their suggestions and informed them on key outcomes and the progress of our proposals.  We are confident that this process has made a positive contribution to the design and planning process for this important regeneration site.

Our approach throughout, has been to engage local people and stakeholders as early as possible in the planning process. Polity Communications Ltd have been commissioned to organise community involvement activities relating to the proposals.

The site will be branded ‘Putney Place’ and an identity will be developed to reflect this. The primary objective of the consultation programme has been to inform local people and seek their views about the proposed redevelopment of the site including identifying potential community facilities and infrastructure needs.  Flowing from this, we aim to identify key community aspirations and concerns, addressing these where possible in the final planning submission.

Prior to holding a public exhibition of emerging proposals and in addition to pre-application discussions with Wandworth planning officers, local politicians and MPs have been briefed on our intentions for the site.

Local residents and businesses were invited to a public exhibition within one of the existing buildings on the site on 29 February and 1 March 2008  the exhibition contained a series of floor standing panels and models which described our emerging proposals. A representative cross section of the local community attended the public exhibition. This revealed significant feedback which the development team are currently considering in advance of the final planning submission to London borough of Wandsworth.

In response to the comments and viewpoints expressed the design is currently being revised as follows:

  • An increase in office space;
  • Increase in the distance between the proposed building at No. 1 PutneyPlace and the residential properties in Disraeli Road and Fawe Park Roads;
  • An improvement in the quality and content in public realm treatment;
  • Greater integration between private and affordable housing tenures;

Following the exhibition, further stakeholder meetings were held with The Putney School of Art and Design and with local politicians.
We will keep the local community informed on the progress of the scheme via a community newsletter and dedicated website.
